Eminem Delays "Re-Up," Converts Mixtape Into Official Album Print E-mail

ImageEminem's long delayed mixtape, "The Re-Up," will be released as an official compilation album this winter titled Eminem Presents: The Re-Up.

As previously reported, The Re-Up was originally set to be released next month as a mixtape honoring D12 member Proof, but according to Eminem, it will be an official album showcasing new talent under his Shady Records imprint which includes Stat Quo, Bobby Creekwater and Ca$his.

"So much wrong information has gotten out, it's time to set the record straight," said Eminem via a statement. "What happened is that the material was so good and the tracks were getting produced like a regular album, so instead of putting it out there rough and unfinished, I thought we should add some other new tracks, make it a real album, and put it in the record stores to give these new artists a real boost."

The initial Re-Up was reported to feature unreleased songs Proof had done with D12 for their third album and tracks his groupmates had dedicated to him.

According to Em, those tracks will see the light of day but will not be on The Re-Up.

"The D12 album and those unreleased songs with Proof are coming," explained Eminem. "But The Re-Up is about these new artists and these new songs. It isn't fair to them or to the memory of Proof to mix them up."

The Re-Up will feature appearances from 50 Cent, Lloyd Banks, D12, Obie Trice and Akon . Beats on the album are provided by LT Moe, Eminem and The Alchemist.

The first single and video off the album will be "You Don't Know" which features Eminem, 50 Cent, Ca$his and Lloyd Banks.

Eminem Presents: The Re-Up will hit stores on December 5th.

The so-called guerrilla artist Banksy has had his way, creatively, with Paris Hilton, below. He has doctored her records, sneaking tampered albums into stores around Britain. The BBC reported that some British buyers of her CD, “Paris,” are getting not only remixes with titles like “Why Am I Famous?,” “What Have I Done?” and “What Am I For?” but also an altered picture on the album sleeve that shows Ms. Hilton topless and with a dog’s head. A spokeswoman for Banksy, a Briton whose pranks have included sneaking altered versions of classic paintings into major art galleries, said he put 500 copies of his version in 48 record shops in cities that include Bristol, Brighton, Birmingham, Glasgow and London, although he left the original bar code intact so people could buy the recording unaware that it had been tampered with. Among the stores were branches of HMV and Virgin Megastores. A spokesman for HMV said no customers had complained or returned one of the Banksy versions. He added, “Often people might have a view on something but feel they can’t always express it, but it’s down to the likes of Banksy to say often what people think about things.” A spokesman for Virgin said: “I have to take my hat off. It’s a very good stunt.”

The D.O.C. was thought of as one of rap's most promising new voices because of his association with N.W.A. and was at the height of his career after penning the lyrics and contributing vocals to Eazy E's debut and the group's revolutionary album, Straight Outta Compton.

In 1989, The D.O.C. then released his Dr. Dre produced debut album No One Can Do It Better. Dre's production was similar to his production work for N.W.A at the time, but he also included one rap/rock-song and a reggae-influenced track. At a time when virtually every well known California rapper was releasing gangsta rap albums, The D.O.C. released an LP with lyrics that more closely resembled the styling of East Coast lyricists. The D.O.C. also wrote many lyrics and appeared on skits for NWA, particularly on the album Efil4zaggin. He went on to introduce Dr. Dre to Suge Knight, and he helped mold the career of Snoop Dogg.

Not long after his debut album was released, his vocal cords were severed in a car accident, which would prove to be an insurmountable obstacle for his continued rap career. However, The D.O.C. remained important to Dr. Dre. He used his talents as one of the writers for Dr. Dre's groundbreaking album The Chronic, contributing to the tracks "Lil' Ghetto Boy," "A Nigga Witta Gun," and "Bitches Ain't Shit." In fact, the liner notes to The Chronic say "I wantto give a special shout out to The D.O.C. for talking me into doin' this album." The D.O.C. also worked on Snoop Dogg's debut album Doggystyle.
